Water Based Polyurethane or Varnish:
We have been using this product for more 10 years and we can Definitely assure you that this is a great flooring product if
you have it applied the right way and of course apply the right amount of coats as its manufacture’s recommendations states.
Usually to achieve a great result of finishing is applied around 4 to 5 coats of this products. The floors needs to buffed and screened in between the coats.
The Dry time for water based polyurethane varies from 40 minutes to 1 hour depending on the weather conditions.
Advantages of Water Based Polyurethane:
- More Durable ” Many contractors agrees that this products is around 5 times more resistant than oil based”
- Less Voc: “VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compounds”
- Faster Dry Time: ” it depends on its manufactures” But you can have 4 to 5 coats applied in a single day and walk on the finished floors the same day
- Faster Cure: water based takes only 7 days to be completely cured and some brands take even less. Oil Based Takes around 30 days reach its cure stage.
- Less Yellowing: Water based polyurethane keeps its natural looking better than oil.
- Non-Flammable: Water based are not flammable nor combustible.
- Less smell: After you have your floors finished using the water based you not feel that strong smell as oil based has.Oil Based Polyurethane or Varnish:
Oil Based Polyurethane:
This is the most used finishing product and well known in the flooring industry. Oil-based polyurethane was the standard finish. It applies easily and flows over the wood nicely, filling in open wood grain. It provides a strong finish and leaves a warm amber glow. Use an oil remover solvent, similar to paint thinner, for clean-up. Warning: This product is highly flammable. Be sure ventilation is available during use.
Dry Time: Oil based polyurethane will take longer to dry in between its coats, usually around 8 to 10 hours and 12 hour for the last coats. It’s recommended to have 3 coats of oil based based applied so you can achieve the greatest results with this product.
Several sheens are available with polyurethane sealers. A satin finish has a soft look. Semi-gloss provides a somewhat shiny appearance. High-gloss is very reflective. Note: High-gloss will show scratches and scuffs more so than the Semi-Gloss and Satin Sheens. We always try the different sheens on a piece of floors so our customers can have an idea of how it will actually looks like but you will have a perfect idea once the the coating is finished in dried. An oil
based finish is sometimes preferred to a water based finish because the oil based finish is said to give the wood more depth and more color.
Rubio Monocoat Floor Finishing:
Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus colors and protects your wood in one single layer.
Stir the Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus. Apply the product all over the surface with a cloth, a wiper with a cloth, or a polishing machine. Allow the product to react for 3-5 minutes. Wipe off ALL surplus product with a polishing machine within 15 to 20 minutes. Removal of ALL excess is the most important step.Day 2
After 24-36 hours the furniture and other interior decoration can be put back in place. Areas with very heavy traffic should preferably be protected for +/- one week, with a porous material, 48 hours after application of Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus.
Keep the finish dry during this curing period
Advantages of Rubio Monocoat Floor Finishing.
- Free of water and VOC
Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus does not contain water: its components are mainly natural products. Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus doesn’t contain volatile organic components (= VOC free).
- Colors and protects through molecular bonding
Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus adheres with the first microns of the wood by molecular bonding (with no film forming nor saturation). This is why the consumption is much lower than with a traditional wood finishing system.
- Durable protection
The molecular bonding creates a durable, long lasting protection. To obtain this molecular bonding it is very important to strictly respect this reaction time of a couple of minutes. The better the fibres are bonded, the stronger the protection will be.
- No overlaps
Once all free cellulose fibres are molecularly bonded, surplus product will no longer be accepted by the wood or the bonded Monocoat layer itself. This is why overlaps or starting marks are avoided.
- Time-saving: coloring and protecting in one layer
It is pointless to apply a second layer on top of Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus because this extra layer will not be able to bond with the free wood fibres or with the primarily – bonded- Monocoatlayer.
- Easy to repair
This technology allows local repair of damaged areas or scratches: only the free wood fi bres will absorb the product. The product next to the scratched or damaged area will not adhere. After the reaction time all surplus product can be removed without overlaps.
- Unique colors
